I've never sold a coin but considering unloading some 90% junk. I've had one offer for $40 FV on halves, quarters and dimes, and $42 on Morgans/Peace.
For those of you who move coins, is this a fair price in today's market considering purchase was many years ago.
Also how do you determine a fair price in today todays market e.g melt plus/minus % and call it a day, other?
Thanks

I'm sure you will get much info from many veterans on you post here but something to read through on another thread here on CCF. Maybe go closer to the end of the thread for current pricing and information. LINK https://goccf.com/t/247670

The price of silver has been so volatile that one day an offer might seem reasonable, but the next (or later that same) day it might not. You can go to http://coinapps.com/silver/coin/calculator/ to get a melt value. I find that if you sell on Facebook, you tend to get close to melt. Otherwise, I'd shop around rather than take the first offer.

The price they are offering is to low in my opinion for sure the Morgans and Peace dollars should be close to spot. But now is not the right time to be unloading 90 percent silver the refineries are backed up which is keeping the prices down on 90 percent. Talked to a coin store owner today he is at 61$ face dollars. Excluding Morgan's and Peace dollars.

At a coin show this weekend, Morgan dollars were selling for $59. And being snapped up. You can do better than $42. Each one has 0.773 oz silver.

Thanks for the additional info, I opened up the question because I have a full set of avg circ Franklins that I'm considering selling locally, and wondering how to figure an objective fair price as it looks like Franklins run pretty consistent in avg circ condition. Is is it a matter of just getting melt value and multiplying the number of coins and tweaking that number a little, or somehting else? Kinda feels like a dumb question on my part but I like to be educated in such things before I get started. Thanks

I would not take less than melt for a complete set. A year ago most of these were $15 coins whereas melt is about $28 now. Some do have a slight premium over melt.
