This is the newest edition to my silver coins. Besides the 1964 or pre-1964 silver coins that I have, this is the first modern silver coin I have actually seen.

Chances are this is after-market plated.

It's most likely silver or platinum plated, the TV hucksters sold a lot of these at very inflated prices.

There were no 2004 silver nickels.
This series was silver plated aftermarket for souvenirs.
You could buy a folder with all the different states in it.
Technically it is a damaged quarter worth 25 cents.
If you want to try to collect the whole series, that is up to
you but there is no numismatic value to them.

It left the mint as a Cu-Ni clad coin, and was silver plated later by folks who desire to make money from selling dubious collectibles such as this example.

I hope you did not pay much for it.

Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

There are modern silver Quarters, but they are Proof coins. These occasionally make it into circulation (impaired proofs), but it would have an S mint mark, not a P. There are also clad proofs with S mint marks to make things more interesting. The silver proofs weigh 6.25 grams, while the clad (Cu-Ni) proofs weigh the same as business strikes at 5.67 grams.

I will be uploading my 1964 silver dime and 1966 error quarter which weighs 4.2g. I thought they where both worth keeping. Thanks for the replies
