I think the reverse holds it back to a net grade of no more than F12.

F 12, an acceptable hole filler.
A seller would call this VF 20. If they're asking VF money, pass. There are better examples at that price.

Absolutely, being a 1912-S I'd definitely grab it if the price isn't too high.

Price on this one was $18. Seller said VG, to me it looks better with a weakly struck reverse.
smat, over the years I have built several sets, and sold them. Decided to do it one last time and put it in Library of Coins Album, where my first set was housed in the late 1950's.
Thanks everyone for your feedback.

Strange one, 1912 coins are all well struck, the dies/hubs were still fresh from 1909, I think reverse is due to wear and not strike. The obverse is fine, nearly VF and wheat lines are still present.

I came back to re-examine this one after some thought. The dies/hubs were still fresh from 1909, the 1912 issues across the mints were generally well struck. However, Philly was supplying the dies to San Fran in 1912 and they struggled to do so. I think I'm seeing LDS on both sides, especially the reverse (VLDS). LIBERTY, IN GOD, and the date are spread-out. The reverse die was worn to an almost comical level. I don't recall ever seeing a 1912-S with that late of a reverse die state! It was pushed to the brink IMO.

For these reasons, the grade must be driven by the cheek/jaw separation and overall quality of the obverse. BUMP VF-20
