Yeah I ordered the .50 oz then noticed they lowered the price. Mine hadn't shipped yet so I canceled the order and decided to order the 1 oz. Some of us bought gold/silver when spot prices were higher but long term I think prices will gradually keep going up.

Maybe they're Not.
Strange far sure especially when they have 3,387 available at the Mint......

If that makes you wonder check out the "SOLD" prices for the 4 coin sets

$15k - 19K for a set of MS-70s

$13k for the set in OGP

This morning the mint raised prices on these due to higher spot prices. The 1 oz proof gold went from $5,400 to $5,550. The mint seems to have a premium percentage above spot they want to keep.

I don't recall seeing mint prices change so often, caused by fluctuating spot prices. These gold proofs were released on Thursday March 5. I think every price change down/up happened on a Thursday. I wonder if this is normal practice for the mint to make price changes on same weekday of release.

I had some reget ording the 1 oz at $5,400, such high premium. With my income that's a big expense. I wanted to get the .50 oz but it became unavailable currently. With today's price increase I feel some better LOL. Mine is in the mail. Supposed to arrive Saturday. I hope it's a good one. If not I'll send it back.

My 1 oz gold proof arrived today. I didn't need a magnifier to see a crater on the obverse close to a star. There's also two smaller ones further down in the rays. Probably planchet defects. I'm going to start a return for refund tonight. I doubt I'll buy another. I usually don't buy graded/slabbed modern bullion and won't this time either. The graders sometimes make mistakes, an MS70 can have flaws they missed.

I'm disappointed with the mint's lack of quality, especially with their expensive coins.

@ livingwater The prices have fluctuated more recently than in the past due to continuing and greater fluctuations in spot price than in the past. The USM changes prices, if they are going to, based on the Wednesday London p.m. price of gold, so the changes will normally show on Thursday, regardless of release day.

I had a similar experience, that was the, what are they called, the American Liberty gold coin and silver medal. This was the one with the bristlecone pine on it. I need to see where the Mint is on that series, probably no chance to make one this year with everything else going on. I think they do that series every couple years?
Anyways, had really significant finning on it. I returned it as well and took the refund. Bought a silver one instead. I don't think gold eagles have this problem, I'm hoping I get a good one, assuming I get one (the EU Gold eagle is what I'm referring to)

Thanks Dearborn. But that crater can be seen without magnifier and bothers me on an expensive coin. I'm mailing it back today for refund. I printed the mint's return label but will pay for insurance coverage because the mint is not responsible for lost coins sent back.

Edit: USPS would not let me add more insurance and use the mint's free printed label which is only insured for $100. So I made my own label, used a bigger box, insured it for $5K which cost me $47, worth it to me so I don't worry as much about it being lost. It's not as bad a risk using mint label returning coins worth a couple hundred.

Update. After the USPS sent the package the wrong direction for several days (me worried) the coin arrived at mint warehouse in Texas and I got my refund. With refund money I'm thinking of maybe going for the 2026 1oz gold dual date enhanced uncirculated, release May 28. Or since I'm mostly a stacker buy a 1 oz gold Argor Heraeus Kinebar, their hologram is cool and much less premium.

Decisions. My gut says the former.
