Oh I see. I'm really just in to the OGP examples, which I know I can sometimes, but not always, buy cheaper from the Mint. Yes you can wait awhile, there may be an immediate higher price as the speculators try to reap a profit. But hold on awhile and you could get it for less. But I'm just roll the dice and get things from the Mint in release days. Much of my collection are coins released when I wasn't collecting, so had to be sourced various ways, I got pretty fluent and finding what I wanted at what I thought were at least average prices. Some of the odd ball sets I didn't even like thinking about what I paid. "But by God I have 'em!" LOL! There are several ASEs I guess may not be considered key dates, but thought enough of them to pick up spares: 2012S proof, the 2013 EU, 2011S Uncirculated, a 2017 S proof, and the 2016 lettered edge proof and Uncirculated are a few that come to mind, that I have extras of.

All right, I swore to myself that I was done buying gold due to the ridiculously high prices, and that meant no more buying a select one-ounce gold coin annually from the mint as had been my practice for years. But then my wife kept bugging me saying we really should think about buying more gold and then I saw this thread and then I looked at the coin itself...
So, yeah -- I just bought the one-ounce version of this coin from the Mint. I'm trying to convince myself that the $5400 price tag will be worth it some day, but I'm not really believing myself when I say it. Thank heavens the mortgage is fully paid off and my son's college tuition is fully funded as well. Seriously, though, $5400 for a one-ounce gold coin seems ludicrous to me. Maybe in 10 years I'll look back and chuckle at the great bargain I got...

Just watch, they'll move that one back too, but supposed to be May 28th I think it is. It'll be pretty special. Maybe the price of gold will drop more, but that's not my usual luck. I haven't looked to see if the EU has more of a premium than the proof.

Huh, the uncirculated is actually $30 less premium than the proof.

Well, I'm a huge fan of proof coins, personally, and I try to get one proof gold coin from the Mint every year. To each his own, of course!

When it comes to gold, it's all either in a set a "need" for my ASE set (Philadelphia Bicentennial set, 10th Anniversary set, Impressions Of Liberty set, and 2 of the 20th Anniversary sets, I think covers it), or something very special: Reverse proof buffalo, (only done once) and the UHR gold double eagle. The 20th Anniversary 3 Coin Gold Set has the only reverse proof gold eagle they've made. I can certainly appreciate your penchant for proof gold eagles! A little or of my price range to obtain yearly. Last year I did pick up the 1/2 oz 25th anniversary gold Sac dollar.

barryg.....Gorgeous! I finally decided to get a 1 oz proof. It was about 14.9% over Kitco spot when I ordered. I don't know if this is higher premium compared to previous years proofs releases. I bought it due to the dual date and privy. Ungraded random years older gold proofs sell for well below 14.9% premium. Only time will tell if the 2026 dual date will have enough collector interest to keep prices significantly higher than spot.

Saw on TV this morning Rare Collectibles TV is selling the 2026 1 oz gold proof dual date graded MS70 with a special label for only $10,795, they are throwing in for free a MS70 2026 proof silver eagle LOL. Sad that people buy from them.
