Just curious to how you guys go about obtaining your coins? Do you go to a coin dealer, ebay, shows, etc? One thing specifically? All of the above? I generally use ebay, as it is the best way to obtain things in my particular situation. I have a super busy life and I'm alone with my son a lot, and sometimes, heading to the LCS just isn't feasible for me. So, that's why I enjoy personally using ebay. He would be running around the store. Literally. I on occasion frequent a pretty nice coin store near me called Abbott's coins. Other then that, in my area, there honestly isn't really too many coin stores.

Early on I was searching the parents' change. Then some mail order from the magazines, especially Littleton approvals. Later on, coin shops and coin shows. Now, coin shows and ebay. I miss the coin shop that was close to me.

I buy all my nice stuff on ebay. I hunt every day, multiple times per day, for the rarities that I find interesting. I also coin roll hunt nickels weekly, and occasionally dimes.

All of the above plus coin shows and Auction Houses like Great Collections and Heritage Auctions. CCF is also a great place at times to find coins, but not a lot of sellers recently (hint hint & )

I've been buying a number of lower value items from Facebook groups. It is cheaper shipping and no tax vs. ebay. I still find some things on ebay. Coin shows can be hit or miss, but sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by what I find. Other auctions for higher value items. Unfortunately there are no coin shops near me. I enjoy going in to them whenever I am in the area.

I get my coins from a variety of sources... I don't really have a proper local coin shop, but I am fortunate enough to live quite near a number of antique centres that have coin stalls inside. I described them in this thread https://goccf.com/t/261670&whichpage=15#4361762I buy modern British coins direct from The Royal Mint and occasionally from the Westminster Collection. I have obtained some great additions to my collection by swapping coins with members of this Forum. I buy some coins on ebay and occasionally from other auctions. I sometimes get coins at face value from circulation, either from change or from bags of coins I get from my bank. Last but not least, I travel a lot, sometimes for work but more usually now for pleasure. I have visited about 100 different countries and have brought back coins from almost all of them, both from change and from coin shops or overseas mint agencies. I visit Paris at least once a year and love browsing in the Rue Vivienne there!

Auctions, mostly, but also an avid patron of coin shows. The 'good' LCS's are an hour drive but worth it.

I don't buy coins online or by mail order any more. Most of my coins in recent years have come from the following sources: - Local brick-and-mortar coin shops. There's still two left in my city and I still visit at least one of them every few months or so. - Coin shows. There's two large-for-Australia coin shows in my city each year and I usually go to both. - Coin club auctions. I'm currently a member of three coin clubs. - I'm a volunteer for a mission organization that collects donated postage stamps and sells them to raise funds for missions. I'm "the coin guy" on the committee; if people donate coins along with the stamps, then it's my job to sell them to raise funds for the mission. A good proportion of the time, I'm the one that ends up buying a coin if I don't happen to have that particular country/date/denomination/mintmark.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

I generally purchase nicer coins on ebay, or on auction sites like Heritage. I get my Lincoln Cent from individuals for CRH. I advertise on a local area site and buy a surprising amount of coins from this. Just purchased 125 pounds of mixed wheat and memorial Lincoln cents from an individual who answered my add. Also bought a bunch of silver from him as well. Seems like I get responses every couple of weeks.

if you are purchasing raw off ebay just one point of advice. Learn what cleaned coins are and the various ways they are cleaned. its very easy to get ripped off. Photos can be altered by angle and lighting and lastly make sure it has return privileges.
