I've had this coin for almost two years, and I'm pretty satisfied with it within the boundaries of what I can pay for a coin. And I'm using the seller's photos because, honestly, removing it from its CAPS album and its capsule would be a minor ordeal, which includes the possibility of damage. And I probably couldn't produce a better image, anyway. But what I'm considering would require just that, so I'm asking for opinions. I have acetone and Verdi-Care on hand. Do you think I should do anything to this coin? While I'm at it, anyone care to put a grade on it, or comments on its condition, would be welcome. Like, did I pay too much, at $107 delivered? I don't think acetone would help any but treating it with verdi- care wouldn't hurt. Usually when I buy a copper coin online, I treat it with verdi-care to remove any dirt and oils. It also gives it a protective coating.

I don't see anything that either treatment substance would improve. My recommendation is to leave it alone.

Thanks JimmyD, jbuck, nickelsearcher, and ijn1944. I'm happy to take y'all's advice and leave it alone. :-)

Looks like it had an older cleaning but still a nice looking circulated example. $107 total is about an average price to pay.

I guess with older circulated coins like this, older cleanings are pretty common. Might even be more the rule than the exception. But I'm curious as to how you can tell?

nice looking cent, a good price for it - no restoration necessary on this one

I don't see anything that would improve with acetone or VerdiCare. Nice coin!

Quote: But I'm curious as to how you can tell? Usually on chocolate brown cents it's the variation of the colors - it's not an overall one color tone. A bit lighter in the open fields and darker "halos" around the details..just like your pictures show.

Interesting, Marv. That's why I'm here, to glean what I can from the community knowledge base. Well, I like it. Likely the best 31-S I'll have, and I'm gonna keep it, LOL. Would this rate an EF or AU50?

A very pleasing '31s. Extra-fine 45 would be my grade estimate.

It's OK. A thumbing would help it slightly (probably).
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.

Leave it be, there would be no discernable benefit to treatment. Nice coin !!!
