1992 D Close AM I found in pocket change several days ago has some extensive damage to it!! What are your thoughts on it and opinions on value/desirability of the coin both graded & ungraded? CURIOUS!!

I agree this is a CAM reverse, but I'm not convinced it's dated 1992. The significant damage to the final date digit makes it (to my eye) impossible to know what it was.

An authentic 1992-D CAM cent is a significant rarity. I hope your coin can be positively identified.

Where are you seeing DDO / DDR?

That cent is ungradeable in that condition. If you sent it in it would just be returned in a body bag.
It may or may not be a 2 but if it was, it would have low desirability in that condition, especially with the zinc rot.
I would just keep it as an album filler as you may never find another one in the wild.

Hard to distinguish the DDO / DDR with the absuse it's seen in circulation. However, it didn't hurt to ask. Keep searching, there are much better ones out there waiting to be found!

To CCF! If it's a 1992, then it's indeed the Close AM reverse. As stated, it wouldn't be worth as much as one in better condition but would still be a very rare find. As far as doubling, I am seeing none. Not a DDO or a DDR. Having a true DDO and DDR on the same coin is very rare. https://doubleddie.com/58222.html

This is an excellent very RARE Close AM find if determined to be a 1992 cent!

Can you post up a close up of the date (especially the 2?

WOW! Amazing find, searched for decades and never found one. CONGRATS!

Looks to be VF but damaged, worth getting slabbed just for the authentication. It's still a rare coin.

I will say that's a '92 for sure, top of the 2 looks nothing like the top of the 9's

I would say the coin would be worth a cent with that kind of damage.

If by chance you happen to find one that looks identical, I'd be more than happy to pay you $1.00 for it, I'll even pay for shipping.

Normally yes, but this cent is possibly the 1992 Close AM cent. If that's the case, then it being worth one cent isn't true. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...am-rd/412710
