Hi everyone. I've been interested in and collecting information about tokens from various islands in Canada for a long time. There are many islands there, and there's numismatics. Does anyone else collect this information?

There are quite a few islands of Canada that produce tokens (and coins too)

It is a bit late for me, so I'll try to remember to come back and get you a list.

Let me simply illustrate my question with an example. There's an island called Texada, and there's a token in the photo. Now I'm asking—in what catalogs can I find this token and other similar Canadian tokens?

I'm not a collector of Canadian tokens, so I'll defer to other re: standard catalogues/references.

I will say, however, if Canada is anything like the United States in this area, not all local tokens will find their way into printed catalogues.

You might consider checking out the on-line reference: TokenCatalog.com.

Best of luck!

Token catalogues in Canada are generally for individual provinces. That particular token is listed in B.C. Numismatica by Hill. There are two tokens by that issuer listed in Catalogue of British Columbia Tokens, maintained by R. Greene.

For the collection you are forming, you need to think about what you want to include. For example, would you include Quathiaski Cove which is on Quadra Island, but Quadra is not mentioned on the token? You may need more than a catalogue to help you.

BCTokens Thanks for mentioning Quadra Island. The well-known series of tokens doesn't directly indicate the island's name, but I've seen various publications about them and this island in magazines. I'm interested in sharing my research, and I'd be happy to hear what other collectors know on these topics, including any information, links, or, better yet, archival photos. Here are the details about the series of tokens you mentioned - Quathiaski Cove (Quadra Island, tamsjournal):

cdngmt You mentioned Anticosti Island and Vancouver Island. I've read threads here on the forum discussing known tokens believed to be from Anticosti Island, and the only known denomination in this series is 1/8. There's likely a very large list of tokens and numismatics of various types for Vancouver Island. Overall, based on my observations and research, I see that there are several islands in Canada for which there is a truly large collection of numismatics of various types.
These islands include Vancouver Island, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland Island, Cape Breton Island, Manitoulin Island, Montreal Island, and a separate, large series of numismatics for Lasqueti Island.

Overall, I want to compile the most complete list possible of all Canadian islands that are reflected in various numismatics, and, if possible, collect publications about them. Write about what other islands you know?

I'll show you some of my interesting finds, and I welcome comments because it can be difficult to find the information you need. For example, here's a Woods Island token. It's supposedly a small island in Canada near Newfoundland, but I haven't seen any publications about it. It's listed in the tokencatalog among Canadian tokens. Google Maps shows an island with that name, but it might be a different island (?):

Could you please tell me if you see the Texada Island tokens in the catalog? Can you tell me what they say or show me a small scan of the description page? I don't have that catalog..

There's a similar story about tokens from Salt Spring Island, neighboring Texada. I found two milk tokens at auctions that specifically refer to Salt Spring Island, but don't include the name. Can you tell me if these and other tokens are listed in catalogs, and whether the island names are listed there?

Another example with tokens from British Columbia. Prince Rupert is a coastal city located on Kaien Island in Northern British Columbia. I see five commemorative medals "Prince Rupert BC" at auctions, but they don't list the name of the island. Furthermore, I've only seen one token so far that's likely listed in catalogs. I wonder if there are any other tokens that could be attributed to Kaien Island?

BCTokens Thank you so much for the photos! It's great that you have the right catalog, because I don't have it.
In this specific topic, my goal is to compile my own original catalog of the Canadian islands. Starting with tokens and continuing with various exonumia that often aren't included in catalogs. I'd be interested if anyone would like to share or show rare photographs on this topic.

Grand Manan island, wooden nickel tokens. I once found a series of tokens from this island at auctions, they vary by year from 1980 to 1989. I wonder which catalogs have tokens from this island?

I'm interested in compiling my own catalog of the islands and examining various unusual finds. There are quite a few. Here's one: Twigg Island dairy token
