Hello all: I bought a really nice 1944-S Lincoln Cent, slabbed, NGC MS-67. I did not notice any issues on the ebay pictures. After I received the coin I immediately saw a black line projecting from Lincoln's brow. I found an NGC verification site, and the black line is there! There some other dark spots. I pointed out to the vendor, and he thinks it is likely on the inside of the slab. Here are my pictures (I need to work on lighting...): I extended the bellows fully, and got as close as I could, plus went to minimum aperture to restrict depth of field. I could not prove the mark was in a different location than the coin surface, but it makes the most sense. Here is what I saw on ebay: This is from the NGC verification site I got the coin for a good price ($89). I may keep it, maybe even reslab it. I see scratches on the slab surface so reslabbing helps that also. Does anyone polish slab surfaces to eliminate scratches? Any thoughts? Edited by JohnQPublic 04/02/2026 12:22 am

Good catch. I ran the NGC cert by reading off the slab. I did not realize I got a different one than what I ordered. Thanks.

Fortunately, the vendor has the -026 still and is going to swap! He said he assumed it was a multi-part offer (meaning there could be more than one MS-67RD available), but since it was not I should get the one pictured.

That's good to hear!
For what's it's worth, to my eye it looks like the line is on the plastic.

So he was using a stock photo or was it just his goof up that he sent you the wrong coin? Quote:Different cert. #s The ebay listing was for ......026 You got .....030 Great catch.

I've polished scratches out many times using the automotive type. I've even wet sanded one, 800/1200/3000 followed by polish. Worth a shot to at least confirm which side it's on.

@Marv65
It was a goof-up. He has multiple available, but the listing in question was for just one. So he agreed that the should give me the one in the photo, and that is the one I want. He agrees- "buy the coin, not the slab".
