Over the years, I've accumulated a number of impaired proofs from 90% silver purchases and coin roll hunting.
So, both Ag and Cu-Ni proofs.
Suggestions for preservation?
Will acetone help remove fingerprints and light grunge without damaging the coins' surfaces further?
These are not toned coins, but some of them have light surface contaminants.
How long can they soak, or is duration not a concern?

TIA

Proofs are extremely sensitive and easily ruined. Always start with the Polarity Ladder.

Usually, once a fingerprint has set in, it is a permanent feature as the oils will etch the surface. In my experience, only very fresh prints can be safely removed.

If the fingerprint is new then a strong "Maybe" - if it is older then the oils from the fingerprint have already eaten into the coin's surface and there is now way back from that!
And cleaning a proof is always a challenge. IF successful - the fields will eventually cloud back up...........so it's really not recommended.

I'm convinced. Impaired Proofs are what they are. Yeah, I knew that. I don't guess there's much to improve them, just be happy for the unexpected finds. They're cool in their own way.
Thanks, y'all.

I throw my 'impaired proofs' into coin flips and store them separately from the rest.
