This is a cast replica of a "Continental dollar". The history of the originals is still not positively known, they had been thought to be US made patterns for years, but more recent research is pointing toward them being medals made in Europe.

@Icutler thank you for the knowledge. I wasn't too sure it was real. I figured someone on here could give me some insight as it's been my best source of doing research on my new found hobby. I really appreciate you letting me know. That sure would be a cool piece to have my hands on. Sounds like it has some interesting history behind it. Again thank you for letting me know and for being humble about it

I've had one of these (well, a real one ) on my wish list forever, they are very expensive, several thousand for the roughest damaged coins, well into 5 digits for a decent example. Despite hazy origins, they seem the perfect cutoff point from "colonials" to "USA", and would be a splendid addition to any early American collection.

The motifs are duplicated on the 1787 Fugio Cent (<-- see avatar), which is much more common and obtainable.

If you are interested in coins of the colonial/pre constitution era there are many genuine pieces that can be had quite reasonably. Connecticut coppers and Hibernia coinage can easily be found in lower grade for $30 to $40. Nicer coins for not a lot more. Great connection to early American history for the 250th anniversary of the country!

I kind of figured I could t be that lucky lol. But I had be 100% sure about it. So my first step was putting it on here. And I figured if it was a fake it would get called out. I did find a few good coins like a 1827 square bust and also an 1887 V nickel. Both in XF condition. So it was worth the effort to do my research on it. I appreciate everyone's input. The coin family has been an amazing group of people to me with their knowledge. And I look forward to learning more everyday about these historical pieces of our country and others.
