I came across this Valentinian II on ebay for $28. I liked the coin and thought it would be a plus that it was NGC verified, so I offered the seller $25 and he agreed. For tax, tag and title I paid $30, a reasonable value from NGC so I think. Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Valentinian II AD 375-392 AE4 (Nummus)

Congrats on the purchase, but I believe most of that cost is in the slabbing of the coin. You can get something close to that price from in much better condition. Either on Vcoins or reputable sellers on ebay.

AE4 is the size--

AE1 over 25 mm

AE2 21 - 25 mm

AE3 17 - 21 mm

AE4 under 17 mm

you might also see AE3/4

Nummus is just a generic word for money. We don't actually know what most of these Late Roman issues were actually called.
