[Sorry , but I am using an IPad for the first time. I meant to post both photos at the same time. I bought this 1916 D dime many years ago. I was hoping someone who is more knowledgeable than me could give me an opinion as to its authenticity. Thanks.uploaded/grr601/20260412_img_0041.webp[/img]

I added the obverse. I apologize for my ineptitude..I was an active member of this community until my son passed away 10 years ago and I sort of drifted away from things. So, I haven't posted in a long time and never with an IPad. I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks again.

back to the CCF. I don't see an obvious signs of being a fake, but this is one of the most counterfeited coins in the world. Our experts would appreciate an enlarged view of the mintmark and its position relative to the stem. If authentic, then I would go AG03 on grade.

This is the best enlargement of the mint mark I can get.

Agree, better pics around mintmark would help.
Hard to tell currently, but if real die pari could be reverse #3(aka 1916-D D/D WRPM-001)

If this is a counterfeit - I am forced to wonder why they would make one in such terrible condition.

You can listen to all the bull - but: Authentication: Due to high counterfeiting rates, the CoinWeek Grading Guide and PCGS CoinFacts state that professional certification is essential.

If this were my coin I would send it to ANACS for authentication.
In an ANACS AG03 slab this is a ~$1000 coin and worthy of the minimal submittal fees.

I would feel better if it were authenticated.

The way it looks, it could be a S tooled around the edge to make it appear as a D. 1916 D even in low AG grade is at $500-600 or higher. As suggested, best to get it authenticated.

Thanks to all who posted a reply. I really value the opinions. I will send it in to get it certified. I also have a 1942/41 and a 42/41 D that I may send with it. Thanks again.
