Yes, that is indeed a die chip, known in Australia as a " Cud". The echindna's paw-gaps are a particularly vulnerable spot on the die, being a fairly sharp point that breaks off fairly easily. Like the "spew roo dollar", these die chips can be found in multiple stages (from small to large), at different spots on the paw, and across multiple years.
