I've long been collecting information about numismatics on the islands around Australia and further afield in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, Malaysia, and Indonesia. And sometimes I find amazing gems. This thread is about one such find.

I once discovered a photograph of two Labuan Island tokens. But since then, I've been unable to find any information about these tokens for many years. There's no confirmation of their authenticity, nor is there any denial. The problem is that the year on the reverse doesn't match the official declaration of the founding of the colony on Labuan Island. This colony first declared itself in the 1840s, and the token is dated 1817. Does anyone know what these Labuan Island tokens are?

Came across a couple of these some years back. I'm fairly certain they are modern fantasy pieces styled to resemble coin weights.

I don't recall the photos of the ones I saw a decade ago, but the collector that asked about them was from Mexico. My reasoning is 1. the overall look is that of modern manufacture with an "antiqued" artificial patina. and 2. The weight provided was very close to that of 1/5th of a British sovereign in 1817, combined with the I/V and pound symbol (gold sovereign was equal to one pound sterling), I deduced it's supposed to resemble a coin weight.
