Hi I have a 1955 D Wheat penny that has some errors on it. On the front side top rim it looks like an upsidedown number 4. On the back right rim side it looks like a number 8. Also on the back side near the bottom rim you can see the words "in god"facing backwards. Does anybody know what created these errors? Also above Lincoln's eye it looks messed up. Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
to the Community. It's just a good old Hammer job.
My experience with examples of hammer downed coins vs vise job has been the flattening and smoother grooves caused by vise vs sharper contact cuts and sharper incused lettering caused by a hammer, on this coin the flattening above Lincoln's Eye shows the point of hammer impact.
