Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and made an account for this post as it seems like there's a lot of collective knowledge here. I received this 8 Reales today from a reputable seller and I'm worried about it being a forgery. The weight is 26.9g, diameter ~39mm, thickness ~2.3mm, specific gravity matched my other 8 reales. The surface looks odd but it seems to just be old cleaning/polish

My main concern comes from the edge design not having overlaps at any point. There appears to maybe be one point where it overlaps, but it could also be damage.

What is all of your opinions? Thank you.

I would like to add upon my inspection that 180 from the spot I indicated in my original post there seems to be an abrupt change in size of the edge design. The two motifs seem to fuse a bit as well, but I'm not sure if this indicates anything

I can not comment this specific type. But about edges, this kind of milled edge does not necessarily mis-overlap in all coins at one point. In a few it will overlap perfectly and not be noticeable.

reputable seller

Pro tip... when the seller's using CoinSnap to ID and grade, they're not a coin person at all.

First, the coin looked to have a possible old cleaning from the seller's pics in the listing, but more toning over it than your pics are showing. Did you play with it at all or were the listing pics just in a bit more flattering lighting?

Aside from that, the first attached edited pic shows exactly where the one overlap is. Presents kind of as one elongated segment... it's clear to the trained eye.

180 degrees across, as you noted, it looks to have been almost a perfect overlay... just SLIGHTLY apparent exactly where I circled. As jecz79 noted, this can happen by chance of where the edge imprints happen to meet.

The piece is genuine.

I'm not sure how to quote a post on this forum, but I'm replying to the poster above. I knew them using coinsnap for grading was a bit of a red flag but they had been selling with a perfect reputation for a long time, so I took my chance and would just file a claim if it were fake.

I think in this case it's my lighting that wasnt very flattering, because the toning is as it's depicted in the listing. I do wish they had stated it was cleaned, but I could tell going into it.

This is my first of this type and written info on these details seems to be scarce and scattered. I really appreciate the help and knowledge and hope
it helps others in the future
