I'm sure this has been asked and answered before, but what does PCGS and NGC do different that makes them better than ANACS and ICG? I know that PCGS and NGC holders get more money than the others. Why?

In terms of authentication and slab quality (ability to protect a coin), all five of the "top-tier graders" are pretty much on par; in terms of "I just want to get my coins in a slab", you can go for whoever is quickest, cheapest, or has the nicest-looking slabs. In terms of the superiority of NGC and PCGS, it is largely the perception of strictness and consistency in grading, especially for highest-grade items: PCGS and NGC are "better" at these two benchmarks.

The new kid on the block, CACG, is said to be "even more strict" but is still too new to have acquired the heavyweight punch of the older two; they have a good reputation built up from CAC stickering but there just aren't enough CACG slabs in existence yet to get a meaningful statistical analysis of prices attained in comparison to PCGS and NGC.

Here's what Collects82 said back in Dec. of 2017 and still holds true today

" The market obviously places higher values on PCGS and NGC coins. For someone looking to sell, it might be wise to use them."

Since I joined this forum, I've learned to study/grade the coin and not the Grader.
