Enjoy grading this one. It's a fairly rough 1922-D strong D cent, with fun history.

Back in the day when I was a young'un I had the privilege of going through the change drawer for coins that I could buy for face value with my allowance money. Over the years, I was able to assemble a complete set of Lincoln Wheat Cents minus only the 1909-S VDB and 1931-S. I found several 1922-D cents, and this was the best of a rough lot. They weren't common in change, but appeared once a year or so. This one went into my first Whitman album. Regardless of grade (and I have no delusions on what it will be), it's hard to beat the price (face value). Adjusted for inflation, this critter cost me eleven whole cents in today's money. Enjoy!

I'm no grading expert, but was delighted to see the 1909-S VDB mentioned in the same sentence as a coin I am happy to possess. One I have, the other I never will.
Likewise, I have a decent 1922-D, but will never have a 1922 plain, which is a mint error.

VG details

that takes me back to 60's when I was a paperboy. at that time you could literally find pretty much anything in circulation. from Indian cents, buffalos, mercs everywhere, walkers and even an occasional silver dollar. silver was plentiful. those were the days. I built all my starter sets from what I received in paper payments. I'm sure something good passed through my hands then that I had no idea what it was.

Interesting story! Sentimental value exceeds any grade we give it.

Thanks all! It was fun seeing this little critter from my past.

I enjoyed the stories you all shared in the responses. I think we had fun collecting back in the day!

The grades are definitely spot on. I don't have the other 1922-D cents that I found, but this was the best of a sorry lot over those early years from the change drawer. I always compared the newer coins with my album coins and swapped out when a better coin appeared. The replaced coins then became coin show swap material.

You all are right. I've bought and sold quite a few much nicer 1922-D cents over the years, but there is a happy memory connected to this one.

Thanks!
