I've been searching for an example of a die clash for ages. Perhaps I have finally found one and I am hoping someone here can help either confirm this is one or just some sort if PMD?

The photos aren't great and I can try for better ones if necessary. The features I am interested in are the regular shapes below and attached to the chin in the circles. They look too regular in shape to me to be random PMD. They are subtle and don't always show up unless the coin is tilted the right way under light. Anyway, I look forward to your opinions either way.

I am only looking at the 'rectangle' and 'triangle' shapes with straight sides that are joined to the chin.

Interesting find. It appears to be one to me, but I defer to someone with more experience.

Perhaps a pic of the coin reverse would help? There should be clashing on both sides.

I'm thinking that it's a Die Clash.

Thank you Jbuck, Brandmeister and Errers and Varietys for your replies.

I have tried to get better photos but it is very tricky. The features are very subtle and unless I get the right angle and lighting it can be hard to capture them. Anyway another one added below plus a view of the other side. If it is a die clash I suspect the lines might be edges of "grass" between the emu's leg, the bottom of the shield and top of the "0". I can't see any evidence of a clash on the reverse but the amount of detail in the design might make it hard to find?

Anyway, this coin will be added to my Odds and Sods collection. Thanks again for your interest.

It seems to line up to me. Most definitely keep it, if anything else just for future reference if/when you find another like it.

It looks like it could be clash from the bottom of the shield.
Have you any way of doing an overlay, this would verify if it is a clash or not.

Sally, I don't claim to be an expert but I have collected a lot of die clashed coins in both decimal and pre decimal Aussie coins for over 30 years now. This does look like a die clash to me. A die chip is rarely regular in shape like the spike and block in your pictures. I would certainly err towards calling this a clash.

I just tried overlaying images on my pc. I flipped one image over to mimic the alignment of the die as they would clash in the event of a missing planchet. The edges of the grass aligned closely enough to convince me that it is an example of a die clash. The thing that I don't understand is why only a part of the design gets transferred from one die to the other. Perhaps there is enough 'free play' between them without a planchet in place that only a part of the die makes contact? Maybe the only part that makes contact is raised more than the rest of the design? Anyway, I'm stoked to have an example to add to my collection. Happy hunting.
