Ideas on what happened to this coin ? And I'm just gonna go with double dot why not, close enough right?

The dot in question is circulated in red.

Not a double dot. The double dot is under the bottom scroll with an "I' mintmark.
It is just a damaged cent. How it happened doesn't really matter as damage is damage.
Unless you were there at the time, you probably would never know how the damage occured.

Your Penny is just a bashed up dot below bottom scroll.

The picture attached is a double dot 1919 Penny.
