I agree that it looks more like a cracked planchet, but that crack could certainly be the leading edge of the ragged metal end.

Otherwise, it's a really nice looking 1941 Large S.

"Cracked Planchet:
Definition: A planchet that developed a crack prior to, or after the strike. In the case of cracks that form before the strike, the rim and neighboring design elements often show slight abnormalities."

If it turns out to be a cracked planchet, I'm guessing this one would fall into the - cracked before strike - column.

Interesting quarter. Marc does bring up an interesting point.
I appears like something was placed above the crack on the obverse, and below the crack on the reverse and the coin was wacked or pressed in a vise.

Just saying - it could have been cracked in may ways - even at the mint.
