Hard to say from that photo. Can you give a straight on closeup of the steps. Don't know that black mark is under the third pillar.

The coin appears to be a Proof strike. If so we should expect some step detail.
I can't see the steps well enough in the photo to offer an informed opinion.
Take a look at my other hobby ... http://www.jk-dk.art

It sure looks like a Proof. Hard to grade with current photos.
Errers and Varietys.

Probably an SMS coin, since no proofs were made then. Closeup of the steps would be appreciated.
Most coin grading companies don't recognize full steps on SMS coins, also I think they are typically very common on SMS coins, whereas normal strikes only have a few known(4 in pcgs pop report) with full steps

No proofs in 1965 but may be an exceptional SMS strike.

I agree, from the photo it's tough to distinguish business vs. SMS strike. A special mint set nickel would have no real premium for step completeness.

I find it interesting that the bust relief on Jefferson looks SMS, but the reverse has a considerable amount of PIDT, which usually implies business strike.

That is a good looking nickel regardless.

So many acronyms to learn. Mostly, that I'd never heard of until my return to collecting a few years ago. Quote: the reverse has a considerable amount of PIDT I've noticed the phenomenon, but didn't know it had a name. In search of meaning, I found a previously unknown (to me) website that looks valuable. Added to my bookmarks. https://www.error-ref.com/

Error Ref is pretty much the go-to reference site for mint errors and other coin manufacturing anomalies. It is quite thorough.
