Anybody here into Standing Liberty quarters? They seem to be overlooked quite a bit IMO. Pretty neat little series. I like the design quite a bit. The prices also seem to be quite reasonable too, especially for an older, silver coin. They seem to be on par with older, silver Washington quarters. Outside of the 1916 and whatever other keys, that is.

Quote: Anybody here into SLQ'S? Yes, I definitely am into them, and am only two away from the complete set; only missing the 1923-S key date and of course the 1916. The other keys are 1919-D and S, 1921, and 1927-S. Before 1925, the dates wore off quickly as they were up high and circulated off faster than many other devices on the coin. To me, the 1916 is not considered a pattern so therefore is needed to complete the set, even though only 52k were minted. Before 1925, the quarters tend to be a bit more expensive as it was harder to preserve the dates and generally lower mintages overall.

One of my top two favorite U.S. coin designs. I've been upgrading my book set for several years now. I have all but the elusive 1916.

I like the design. My best example resides in my 7070. But it has some kind of contamination I hope to deal with at some point. I've got another 47 in a square tube that were saved from circulated 90% Ag coinage. Of those 47, nine have no readable dates, 38 do (1925-1930). I'm happy that I saved them from being melted. At some point, I may want to upgrade my 7070 specimen, but the price will likely keep me from putting a series set together. EDIT: OMG I just located 22 more from my silver stacking days that I hadn't entered in my spreadsheet. Like the first 47, the ones with a readable date are all from 1925-1930. There are five slicks in this addition. Funny thing about SLQs, the mint mark outlasts the year. Out of 69 coins, there are 14 slicks (no date) and five of those have a mint mark. The mm is recessed enough to offer some protection. That's 69 SLQs I bought for a bit over 'melt', back when spot was around $20.

I would agree. Under-valued and highly attractive design. At least in the average grades, higher is a whole other story.

Super Standers, everyone! There's a nice one in my 7070 and I have a few others, but it's mostly a matter of happenstance that I have them.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Dang Gary, what's the back story on your 1916? Every time I think I have a good/great set, I see one like yours. Thanks for shaing. I've only seen them at coin shows.

The coinguy1964; I bought the 1916 in Oct 1998 as a EF45. I broke it out and later sent it to PCGS it now resides in a PCGS holder as a AU 53.

A fun set to collect. I have a complete set except the 1916. Below is a 1920 AU58 is in a PCGS/CAC holder. The reverse looks like an eagle flying through a ring of fire.
