I'm seriously thinking about buying this. It would put me a step closer to completing my Franklin Halfs collection. There are some small scratches.

PCGS puts a slabbed PF60 at $90, and a PF63 at $120. It's a raw coin, but if I bought a slabbed one, I'd just have to crack it out.
What would you consider a good price?

Thanks, jbuck
I am hoping you or someone else can attempt to put a grade on it.
The asking price is in line with PF60 (professionally graded and slabbed).
So anything higher is gravy.

In hand may be different, but going by these photos, PR-60 seems a bit low.

VectorZe, Proof coins generally and Franklins in particular are extremely hard to grade from a still photo. I do see some scratches on the devices, the bell and portrait, are there any on the fields? Greysheet (wholesale) lists the '53 Proof Franklin at $64-for PR 60 and $95 for a 66. "Retail" ( Red Book Quarterly) at $85-$130.

I would keep those prices in mind if you are to bid.

If there are no hairlines in the field, I would grade PR63 or so. If that grade is accurate, $68-90 if graded and slabbed, "raw," on the lower side.

Hope that helps.

I appreciate the information Freespeech57.
This coin is available for $95, which is one of the best offers I've seen for an acceptable 1953 Proof. But, you've given me pause. It's still there, and I haven't ruled it out. I am less eager, though.
I always figure it's best to sleep on it before spending $100 on most anything.

I am no expert on silver proofs, but I do see some speckling in Liberty and We. I think you would really want to see at least one image of each coin face at an angle to assess hairlines, dings, and discolored spots.
