That's awesome! It's pretty cool that the money will go to a good cause by a well known CCF member.

Outstanding! Hondo, you asked us to merge this with TB's topic, but I think it would just be better to add a link for reference. That being said, which topic?

That's fantastic, tropicalbats! So glad your overall dollars for the scholarship were where you hoped they would be.

Thanks folks! Yes, I was kind of worried about using the collection to fund the scholarship but this coin totally put everything over the top. Over the course of the sale a number of coins heavily undersold, some going half price or less, but then a few really went strong and made up for all that and then some. I've sold a lot of coins at auction, but this particular auction was certainly the most important one and needed it to come out well. Which it did!
And the final price on this one was totally unexpected. About five years ago the TOP POP in MS66RD sold for around $3K, so with this one at MS63RB I was thinking if it got close to $1K that would be a big win. My only guess is that when it was discovered folks just figured more would show up and they could just pick one up (CPG lists MS63 at $200). Then, as it turned out, almost none were found. So at this point there are still just 3 graded by PCGS, which is the only reason I can figure why this one went so high. Blew my mind for sure, and made up for watching so many of the other coins go too low.
In the end happy that lots of folks got bargains, while some key coins provided the oomph for the scholarship funding. Win-win!

Quote:I'm guessing Hondo meant this one? https://goccf.com/t/489290 Thank you. Yes, that was the one I found, but since it is a promo thread, I did not feel right merging them. I thought there was one in this forum, but I did not find it. I have lost a step as I get older.

Thanks again! At this point all the legal paperwork is signed with Penn State and just have to wait the 30-day period for the auction house to send me the proceeds. At that point it will be a small check-writing ceremony on the Penn State campus. I am told that this will be early enough for the first scholarship award to be for this fall semester. Awesome all around.
