I picked up this 1953 Pliofilm coin set recently and I was wondering if there was a third party making these older sets in Pliofilm back in the day? It was in a bundle of 1961 to 1967 sets in yellow envelopes.

Nice set of NSF coins.
Not a PL set.
Definitely third party, not RCM.
Who packaged them and when I don't know.
I have a 1960 set in similar packaging.

I have a 1958 set with the same packaging.
The RCM didn't issue this packaging until 1961 and this earlier
packaging is the same layout as the RCM packaging.
This leaves me to believe these were packaged sometime after 1961.

Probably put together by COTY ( Coins of the Year club)
a company in Punnichy Saskatchewan back in the
Day . The company used this format as well as others in
Black pages with sliding acetate covers .
They were quite successful back in the 1950s up to
the late 1960s . Company was formed by Wilfred Latta
and he ceased operating before 1972 selling the operation to the Saskatoon Coin Company .
The company was later acquired by noted numismatic
personality Kelly Wionzek .

Very interesting , I once belonged to the COTY club and I still have the copper medallion with a stamped number on it. Did not know about that history though.
