Don't know IHC's very well but here is a side by side comparison with an authentic 1877. That would be a heck of a grounder find though.

The only thing that catches my eye is the odd looking corrosion above the shield, almost looks like plating as opposed to corrosion of a solid coin.

Looks very authentic to me. Correct reverse, correct feather placement on the obverse. Date looks good.

I'm calling it as authentic. Obviously, there are problems, but what a dig!

You want to talk about a needle in a haystack. Finding a IHC is one thing, but to find the rarest one, is the find of a lifetime. What state was the coin found in?
