Quote:I guess I was one of the few that never fell for the "New" Morgan and Peace dollar (Medal) hype in the first place They are coins, not medals.

Morgans Dad. I do need the 80-cc high 7 as well as low 7 but other than those the Morgan's are complete. Also the 4 rays 35 Peace I believe but I consider them complete but keeping watch to acquire these on a limited budget. Also I have a lifetime of upgrading to do. A lot of my later cc dollars are f/vf and the 93-S is VG 8 but I am happy to have them. I have gotten interested in VAMs as well but I am new to that world but have several interesting ones. Having said that, it makes it harder to give up on the moderns. Part of me feels like if I stop here I should sell the moderns I have and buy the varieties I am missing.

Moderns do Have my eyes, Just Not into it as the classics lately. Upgrading My classic Silver dollars Was Always sweet hunting for them, Of course My VAMS collection took over for Years, If your interested in that history, Please treat yourself to The Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan and Peace dollars, Written by Mr Leroy C. Van Allen & Mr A. George Mallis, 4th edition. These gentlemen Started, Founded the Study of Vams. You'll enjoy the history too, Best Wishes, ..

I have the VAM book, but find I use https://vamworld.com/wiki/Home more often. Worth checking out. I've kept my Morgan and Peace subscriptions. Yes, they are expensive, but they were before too. You paid $85 for less than an ounce when silver was $25. Now its $173 when silver is $80-85. It is relatively cheaper. Don't confuse this with defending the mint and its practices towards collectors.

Psuman08 Thanks That is a perspective I hadn't thought much about. I guess I was shocked when the mint doubled the price in one leap. I know it was driven by the silver price but at roughly $80 over spot is a bitter pill to swallow. I guess your example they were $60 over already so that's a very good point.

Quote: I have been really irritated by the mints practice of artificially creating rarities purely for profit. Putting special markings on a limited number of coins just so they can sell them for multiples of what the regular coins sell for (sometimes at auction) is just sleazy. I don't have much respect for the US Mint anymore. i concur. that's what pushed me out of continuing to buy ASEs. I sympathize with all of you who are left with a bad aftertaste re: the new morgans & peace coins. i'll just leave my comment at that. 'nuff said.

The Peace dollar is my favorite coin. I have thought of cancelling after this year. Having a complete set of Peace dollars makes it hard to stop. The decision is still up in the air, so I will put it off until next year.

Since I doubt the mint will do any additional exotic finishes for these, the Enh UC versions are the last type I need for my collection. I have the 1921s in the circulated type album and the modern versions are in one of my CAPS albums on a page I call "the Ladies"
