I tried CAC for the first time. I got a grade back on this Penny. It is pristine so I dont understand where and what they could have seen? Unless a mistake was made. Thoughts?

Given the posted pics, I'm not seeing evidence of environmental issues. Are those faint linear features (obverse) on the coin, or on the holder?

If the coin in hand looks like the pictures then I'm not seeing anything that relates to Environmental Damage .
If that is a labeling error then that is a huge labeling error.

Looks like a white patchy area on the back of the head.

I'm wondering did you dip it in acetone before sending it in?

So now what? Are you going to leave it in a details tomb?

Well maybe crack it out and see if acetone would remove that so called "Environmental Damage" -

We need to see far better pictures, where the coin is actually in focus, to be able to see the subtle details.

acetone will not cause a coin to details

for future reference. CAC was good at what they do in the way of certifying a grade using their system system. as for grading and assessing coins, I would personally refrain from using them. they should just stay what worked for them.

Impossible, this is an error on their part. These were never even circulated! Also, the coin is clearly in MINT STATE and as crisp as the minting day.

I would call them!

There also seems to be a white spot on the top of the number 9 in the date. At first I thought it was a reflection, but it is in the same spot on both pictures. I'm not saying whether that should be enough to commit this to a details grade, but just saying that maybe this is what they saw. If you do crack it open, please post some pics here of the raw coin. Thx!
