Any thoughts on how you price a coin like this? It's a fairly valuable coin without the ED and the scratch. How much do these things affect the value? I'm guessing someone might take it for a hole filler but it doesn't have great eye appeal... just curious if anyone has a guess.

Besides the issues already mentioned, the coin has a big dig at the rim at 1 o'clock in the reverse. Overall it is not an unattractive coin and the second most valuable issue in the series, only after the impossible 1913 nickel. The issues are relatively minor. I would pay 50% of the VF30 greysheet price if I needed it. Others may pay more or less. Others may want it more than I do.

Interesting corroded and damaged key date.

A ground find perhaps?

However it came to be this is a VF range damaged coin that someone will pay for as a hole filler.

VF details (ED) also

due to its rarity I dont think i'd mess with it like an acetone soak.
the reverse surfaces almost look like rust. its a sizable rim hit rev K1. it does have the appearance of being buried for a long time. I'm not sure what else could have caused this.

I do not know the story behind the coin. It came to me as part of another person's collection and that person is no longer here to ask. I appreciate all of the feedback. I think I'll hang on to it but I don't think I'll try to do anything to improve it's looks. Just let it be.
