Here is a concretion of coins from the Epfig Hoard; which consisted of close to 14,000 coins discovered by construction workers in Epfig, France in 2010.

Now there's a coin cleaning project, though not sure it would be worth it. Speaking of concretions. I also collect fossils. There's stone concretions on ebay listed as dinosaur eggs, they aren't, don't buy them.

Wow. Can't even tell what they are when they are all clumped together. It must take some specialized cleaning to look the way they do in the slabs.

I have cleaned a lot of coins; but I would never touch these. If cleaned, these would just be some more very common LRB's, but uncleaned these tell a story. Plus, they probably would not clean up well. I love when I get untouched hoard coins even if they aren't pretty.
