Guatemala 1965 25 Centavos Perplexing Error Or PMD?

mrwhatisit Pillar of the Community United States 2951 Posts	Posted 05/23/2026 2:38 pm Seems like this was struck on an undersized blank, as this measures ~24mm (regular coin is 27mm), and weighs ~6.33g, (regular coin weighs 8g). Not likely a spooned or Dryer Coin as this does not have the characteristics of such. The G of Guatemala has a die chip in the letter, and above the MA of Guatemala is a planchet flaw like a lamination. Report this Post to the Staff

A Numista search for other coins minted there from1964 - 1966 does not turn up any other coins in the 6.33 g range. Sap Moderator Australia 16805 Posts	Posted 05/24/2026 12:09 am The coin has been "clipped" - filed down, somewhat crudely, in an attempt to make the diameter smaller - presumably, to then feed it into a vending machine of some kind in the hopes the coin is accepted as a coin of higher face value than 25 centavos.
