It might make vg-8. Nice looking coin!

these photos may have been meant to hide surface issues. its impossible to determine color, if the coin was cleaned and any other anomalies. a coin that is about VG and is over 200yrs old and not seeing any dirt or crud in the recesses of any of the devices probably was cleaned. the bluish/purple tone to surfaces are another indicator
VG details (cleaned)

panzaldi you are probably correct on the old cleaning. I considered that as an issue when I made the offer. I'll post what it looks like when I get it. Easy to be fooled with photos. Sometimes you expect the coin to have an obvious leaning and it turns out to only be photo lighting. Always a challenge buying off the internet.

IGE. this is one I want to see when you receive it. there are also some pretty good scratches on the obv especially in the right field from the chin to the rim. it is a crosslet 4 w/stems
second look it might be short of VG, so G6 may be a better choice

I'd say VG-8. It looks cleaned from the pics, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just due to harsh lighting. It's a Cohen-8, spiked chin variety, despite the fact that the spiked chin has largely worn away. It's also a later die state with a Cud over LIBE of Liberty. It'll be interesting to see this with better photos when you get it.

This issue has a bunch of varieties, oddly with pretty much the same value in low grade.
Since these are seller's photos your decision to purchase should've depended on the return policy.
I think a VG details price, if needed to fill a hole, would've been appropriate.
Personally, I don't like the lack of facial detail. I would've passed.

Zurie thanks for confirming spiked chin. It was listed as such, but I didn't see it as those are usually pretty bold. panzaldi I'll post photos when it arrives. A&R it does have a return policy, but for less than $100 you can't find anything that isn't a cull. I'm trying to see how cheap I can put a type set together with coins that are low grade but still have somewhat reasonable eye appeal. Years ago I didn't settle for anything below EF, but times have changed, especially prices.
