Au so chic: Paris Mint to issue first solid-gold coins in a century
https://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/a...4331693.html

• Four versions of the new Marianne coins will go on sale June 16, ranging from one-tenth of an ounce (3.1 grams) to a full ounce (31.1 grams).

• One side will feature the symbolic Marianne face representing the French republic, while the other will show a map of the nation's territories, the Mint said.

Attention US Mint: - the new coins will be sold at market prices -- currently around $4,600 an ounce.

• For investors who want to avoid the cost of storing and protecting gold in their homes, the Mint will offer a digital "e-Marianne" coin that it will hold until the day the owner wants to sell.

Interesting. Thanks for posting. Is that a security feature on the side of the head or just some sort of symbol? I wonder if there will be tarrif fees trying to buy one directly from them plus shipping charges. USA dealers will certainly add some premium to them.

It looks like a holgraphic security feature as used by civilized countries to validate their coins, especially PMs.
I went to the French mint's site - https://www.monnaiedeparis.fr/en/ - but couldn't get much information.

Not the first gold bulling coins from Paris in a century. 70 years ago France was minting millions of bullion gold coins. War in Vietnam nearly bankrupted France before nearly bankrupting the United States of America. But France minted those bullion coins as replicas of the 20 francs 1907-1914. That is why those can easily found uncirculated. It is possible to separate the original 20 francs of that series from the restrikes but I do not know if anyone cares.

The french would love a repeat of the Pinay bonds. But this e-Marianne product is nothing like that. Would be attractive for the public if it paid interest indexed to gold. It is worthless if it just replaces the physical gold. It is the french state wanting the public to give it an interest-free loan on its stocks of gold.
