Weight is 3.4 gr versus 3.11 gr
Same standard dia. size 19mm

Yes, I know I had little luck in making a good photo. This is the best I could come up with several tries. It wasn't for lack of trying.

I am unsure what to think about this coin. My concern is the date appears to be too widely spaced, and '2' appears smaller and raised from the other numbers. The 'B' in Liberty is incomplete while the rest of the letters are complete. 'United States of America' lettering is not clearly stamped and seems to have blobs, such as 'U' in United (at the base).

There are several small corrosion dots on the reverse, and the obverse has dark spots. It appears like maybe someone long ago may have tried to clean the coin. I don't know.

Appears to be bold 'N' versus shallow. Any thoughts on what to look to verify this coin? Anything about it that raises red flags for you? Obviously, it's a big investment for me.

Terrible fake. If you cannot tell this right away you shouldn't be buying high(er) dollar coins.
You realize when you know how to think, it empowers you far beyond those who know only what to think.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to respond to this thread. Yes, I was 99% sure it was a fake, but I didn't want to appear like a know-it-all.

I happen to own an 1872 that is genuine, purchased from a long time serious collector, but before telling my good friend the bad news that he got rooked, I wanted to be able to say I sought the opinions of others to confirm my belief that this coin is a fake, for the reasons I mentioned.

I learned a long time ago it is better to seek the advice of others than to look down from my lofty pinnacle of perfection. It can get rather cold and lonely way up there.
