I noticed that in the image of Washington. There appears to be white smudges or maybe smears of something. I was wondering if you all could give me your thought on what it might be. With damage, unlike an error, it is hard to say exactly the cause. It is possible that it is caused by something rubbing the surface or by wear. It is still worth a dollar though. You might wonder how it is that they don't disintegrate like ordinary paper usually does. US Notes are printed on paper that is not a wood product, it is composed of 25% linen and 75% cotton.
