Quote: This is one of the coin I like not because of beauty but because I'm a direct descendant of Teodosio I the last Roman Emperor of East and West of the Roman Empire. Very interesting MGT. Teddy I was a key figure in history. As an adherent of the Nicene Creed (trinity), the doctrine of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, he influenced how we as Christians believe today. There was a lot of blood and intrigue during his reign, nevertheless, an interesting dude who died at the age of 48.

Here's another cool coin I have (It doesn't count for the contest unless Wheezydog changes the rules) but I think it's cool and it has a lot of history. It is an Electrotype fake of a 1793 Large Cent (Wheat variety). It's estimated to be around 120 years old and one of the earliest type of fakes out there. (The word "copy" on the reverse was recently added by my jeweler to make sure no one EVER sells it as a possible genuine one). Enjoy!

Walk around a few or more thousand miles with that and some other pocket change before the 18th. Until it becomes AG and "COPY" wears away and I might allow you to have a second entry. ( Only if "COPY" completely disappears. ) PS: That is the first time I ever copied and pasted the word "COPY"

OK, I snoozed long enough. Wheezy, I couldn't help myself when I picked up that bucket of nickels yesterday. As I was leaving the store this coin caught my eye. I must have 4 or 5 BU 86's but had to get this one. Only a couple small hits obv and clean rev, light chatter on cheek and a thumb in the toning. Teal blue around the denticles changing to magenta and then golden brown. I guess you all can tell I'm a sucker for a toner! This is a PCGS coin that had a bad day IMO. Graded at MS64 which is probably appropriate but I have 65's that don't look this good. This is without a doubt one of my personal favorites (til the next one rears its mighty head).

Its not old and its not uncommon, it is just a favorite of mine. My grandfather has rolls of these from the 1980s, because someone *cough*mygrandmother*cough* forced him to invest in silver. When he found out I had started collecting coins he literally threw it from across the room to me. He has 3 rolls of these so I bet he is just tired of owning them. I just love the luster of the coin. I would offer up some legitimate history of the coin and its design, but you all probably know more about it than I do.

OK WHEEZY! I accept your challenge; here is my entry. If anyone here has ever read my bio, you would know that I have had two go-rounds at coin collecting. I stopped in the late 80's or so, and switched to trading cards (BOO! HISS!) but got back into it early 2008. I used to collect during the first go-round Early Canadian tokens. Living in Boston I really never came across very many of them, and when I did they were usually not in the best of condition. But, I would buy them all, because due to dealer ignorance they were usually pretty cheap! I can actually remember where I bought this one about 25-30 years ago. There was a dealer in Downtown Boston (don't remember the name, but he was right up the street from JJ Teaparty, who is still going strong) who had fantastic foreign "junk" boxes. 25, 50 cents, and $1 and $2 boxes. Super selection, have never seen better anywhere ever! He always seemed to get a bunch of these tokens, and I was pretty happy about it! Bought this one for 50 cents. Saw it was in great shape; was thrilled to get it. Got it home and looked it up in the Charlton catalog, and the only one that matched it was LC-30F, which listed as "Very Rare". It is the only variety I could find that had a broken leaf below the UL in AGRICULTURE. Anyway, this is probably my favorite coin, and I have owned it for years! http://i591.photobucket.com/albums/...nk/001-1.jpghttp://i591.photobucket.com/albums/...nk/002-1.jpgTHE ONLY PROBLEM? Now that I am a lot more knowledgeable, based on many aspects of it's appearance I am pretty confident that it is a counterfeit! But, still really love the coin/token! EDIT: I think I am going to start a thread in the Canadian forum to see what people that know about this series has to say regarding it.

this is a proof belgium 1994 10 euro coin it is made of silver and had a mintage of 50,000.this is probably my favorite coin I own I love the obverse design. on it is europa riding a bull. europe was named after her. statues of her and the bull are outside several european union buildings. in mythology zeus transformed into a bull while europa was gathering flowers when she saw the bull she caressed it and eventually got onto his back. Zeus took that opportunity and ran to the sea and swam with her on his back to the island of Crete. He then revealed his true identity, and Europa became the first queen of Crete.

Pretty good odds of winning I'd say with so few entries and 3 prizes? Only 4 days left. I was hoping for more, mostly for a more collector orientated topic.

Here is my best coin: The guy I get my coins from is a nice guy. He hates it when ebay/littleton rips people off. He gives me great discounts on coins because I am not an investor and am one of the youngest customers he has. I got 2 littleton albums with slip covers(jefferson 1 and 2) for 40USD. It was partly filled with proofs and early 20th century nickels. Best deal ever. I did not mean to purchase this coin. I went in to buy some pages for world coin binders. I saw a 45 PCGS MS65 nickel. I asked him about it. He went looking through his safe and pulled this out. I couldn't resist. Needless to say, I never bought those pages. Here is a look at the quality of the image. The coin has near complete steps. I am just amazed that I was able to get this much detail. I used a handheld GE 730 on micro and stabilization mode. I tried using a loupe, but my camera auto-focus's and I am unable to get a good picture that way. I used GIMP to crop and zoom.
