Way back in 1982 when I was a college student, I had a semester abroad in London, England, followed by a month of travelling in Europe. While in Rome, we visited the Coliseum one morning and noticed that a bunch of folks were throwing coins from the visitors area into the center of the amphitheater. I asked them (they spoke English) what they were throwing at and they said, "the cats, they are everywhere!" I took a closer look down below, and sure enough, there were cats all over the place, lounging on the ruins and running here and there. Well, as the old saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans do," so I reached into my pocket and pulled out a couple of 100 Lira coins (worth about 5 to 10 cents US each at the time). Those cats made great moving targets! I don't think we ever pegged any of them, but am I am sure the maintenance staff appreciated the extra money.

Back in the 1950's, I remember my dad wrapping a penny in a piece of cheese and feeding it to his bird dogs. He said it got rid of worms. Sounds pretty strange I know.

An older 95% copper penny, maybe that works. I am not sure. However, the current Zincoln could be deadly.

I cheated at a computer game with coins. You stack the coins on the key that does the skill, and you have an instant leveling character. Just leave for 20-30 minutes and your guy is much better when you come back. That's the best for me, very creative!

A friend of mine keeps a variety of different coins near her ancient record player. She has some very old scratched LPs and 45s and puts the coins on the tone arm to stop the stylus jumping when playing the records! For her birthday I gave her a very worn 1797 Cartwheel penny to add to her 'collection'...

A '94 zincoln I picked up in change from the JC cafeteria had some gouges on the reverse. So, just to see what Zinc looked like, I proceeded to press and rub the tails side on various concrete surfaces at the JC and wore the reverse clean off

Let into the floor of Coventry Cathedral, which was rebuilt in 1962 after destruction in World War II, are rows of 1962-dated British pennies. They were donated by The Royal Mint and are supposed to indicate where servers should stand during services. They are now very worn and heavily polished after the passage of so many feet over 50 years!

Had a 71 Buick GS that had aluminum rocker arms with steel tappets brazed to the ends, which constantly broke off. I just stuffed pennies between the rocker and valve stem and off I went. Pennies would last about a week, I imagine the oil pan was full of broke off valve tappets and worn pennies. Finally changed them out with steel rocker arms

These days kids can't do train tracks anymore. Too much adult supervision and lack of freedom. Also, I think TonysPics post, the last post on page 1, is interesting.

And besides, I got thrown in jail years ago for "trespassing on L&N property", jumping off a tresle, not defacing currency.

I did this a few years ago, on a foot crossing in a station for a commuter train. The cars made a rather large BUMP noise when they went over it.

I tried it with a nickel - but I never found it. It went flying.

Another one: I have this lamp where you have to twist a knob to get it to turn on (and off). When the knob fell off and got misplaced I stuck a US dime in the slot and now that's what gets used.
