I've had this medal for awhile. Obviously it commemorates the 1100th anniversary of something to do with a martyr. I tried babelfish to translate it to no avail. Any guidance would be appreciated. It is 30mm not counting the loop.

It's in Finnish. I know that for sure. The "stockmann" makes no sense. They are a department store. Perhaps it was jewelry sold at a store in the 90s?

Um, no, it's in Latin. "Sanguis martyrum semen christianorum" translates to "The blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians", a saying attributed to Tertullian. I think "cunctis patet" means "free for everyone".

The "Domus Pacis" (House of Peace) is a guest house in the Portuguese pilgrim city of Fatima. It kind of looks like the building on the coin, as you can see on their website here. It's possible the first pilgrim house was built there in 861; I don't know what else it might be commemorating, or who the poor chap being bludgeoned on the reverse is.

Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Here is one from elsewhere...

http://www.numismatikforum.de/ftopic7894.html

It's translation (by google)

The building is the Abbey of Einsiedeln in Switzerland, on the other side of St. Meinrad displayed with two robbers, who slew 861. Two Ravens have pursued the killers, the ravens are therefore heraldic animal of the Benedictine abbey. The inscription on this page is: The blood of martyrs is the seed of Christians. The disposition of the inscription on the other side is a bit strange. Because A.D. 861 refers to the year of death of the St. Meinrad, the abbey was founded this year not yet completed. 1961 of the 1100 st anniversary of the saint. In addition, this year, a guesthouse of the monastery was completed to be: For the grace of God, a guest house, a house of peace, open to all. (The Benedictine maintain the hospitality and generally like to take visitors on) More at: http://www.kloster-einsiedeln.ch/we.../deutsch.htm

Sorry. Fail on my part.
You'd think I could recognize latin, considering I've been learning it for 2 years.
