Hi all, I am considering putting together a type set of coins issued by British Commonwealth Nations of the 20th century. Can anyone help me put together a list of all of the nations, colonies and territories that should be included? I looked in my encyclopedia, but it only lists the current Commonwealth of Nations, not all that have existed in the 20th century. Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Wow thats quite a project. Just to make your project that tad harder, don't forget that some countries has changed names a few times in the 20th century Zimbabwe was once called Rhodesia IIRC. This might help you out a bit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common...h_of_Nations

Yeah, I know what you mean!! I had NO IDEA that there would be so many!! Just doing some quick research I have come up with nearly 200 nations and that was BEFORE taking a look at the link that you provided!
I think to make this a more completable goal, I will only include type coins that have an effigy of the King or Queen on them. I guess that would kind of be what got me thinking about doing a set like this. I was looking through my world coin collection and noticed that I had about 6-8 different countries with Kings George, Edward or Queen Elizabeth on them and thought that I would give a shot at building a type set.
I guess the easiest way to assemble a list would be to go through the 20th Century Kraus (all 2200+ pages!!) Just forr kicks and giggles, I will post a the list that I come up with, but still would appreciate any help should I happen to overlook any countries.

Actually, British Empire/Commonwealth is a major collecting theme for people from Britain and Commonwealth countries, and there are (or were) several "British Commonwealth" catalogues, most of which seem to predate the Krause era.
The one I have is Friedberg's "Coins of the British World 500AD to Present", where "present" is 1962 when my edition came out. Of course, it's not just 20th century - it goes all the way back to include Anglo-French, Anglo-American etc. but it may still be of assistance.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

OK, I've decided to focus on Commonwealth Nations that have issued circulating coins in the 20th century, with the effigy of the King or Queen on them. Here is the list that I have come up with of nations to include. Please correct me if I am wrong or have forgotten any.
Austrailia Bahamas Belize Bermuda British Honduras British Virgin Islands British West Africa Canada Cayman Islands Ceylon Cook Islands Cyprus East Africa Eastern Caribbean States Faulkland Islands Fiji Gambia Gibraltar Great Britain Guernsey Guyana (British Guyana) Hong Kong India-British Isle of Man Jamaica Jersey Malaya Malaya & British Borneo Mauritius New Zealand Newfoundland Nigeria Rhodesia Rhodesia & Nyasaland Saint Helena & Ascension Seychelles Solomon Islands South Africa Southern Rhodesia Straits Settlement Tuvalu
What do you think?

I'm no expert, that is why I ask for help. But, I don't think that any PNG coins with an effigy have circulated in the 20th century. I only find commemoratives and gold in my Kraus. Am I mistaken?

There were some New Guinea issues back before WWII that carried the monogram and name of the King, although none had any effigies.

As a former history teacher, I was amazed when I first read this thread.
What a project!
It would sure take a while, but how rewarding once it is finished!
