Lincoln Wheat Penny-S Is Backwards - Coin Community Forum

cmstitchboi New Member United States 1 Posts	Posted 08/09/2009 2:34 pm So I am new to the forum. I have been collecting and selling coins for myself and others for about a year now and have had some great successes. I have run across something, however, that I have never seen before. I came upon a Lincoln Wheat penny that is severly worn down. I can only make out the 19 on the date. However, the mintage is definitely a San Francisco mint except the S is backwards. Has anyone heard of a year when there was a mintage error like this and, if so, what year was it? Report this Post to the Staff

Given the popularity of Lincoln cents you can bet that if this error had been previously reported and confirmed we would all have heard about it! Given the heavy wear on your cent you can't count on the mintmark being clear. Very likely the extreme wear or post-mint damage accounts for any abnormal appearance. Report this Post to the Staff
livingdinasaur Pillar of the Community United States 1571 Posts	Posted 08/09/2009 5:35 pm The only problem is that there is NO WWAY the "S" can be 'baxckwards> Now if you mean, "UPSIDE_DOWN", then you could be right. Not necessarily on the coin you refer to, unless it is a 1946,. In that case it could be very likely. There are examples documented. Dick Report this Post to the Staff
