This is the only reverse scan I had on the computer, it's a pretty small picture
so I don't know how much it will help.

Hello every one, I am a new menber from British Columbia, Canada. I find this site very informative as I dabble in coins as a hobby when I'm not spoiling the little grandson. I have a authentic 1948 Canada silver dollar. I'm just learning how to post images and if I get it right maybe these pictures will help with this topic.

It's definitely okay to double-check with known methods for one's own peace of mind, especially if you were not the one to send it in for grading to begin with.

Even if you were, that wouldn't really be saying that, if one happened to slip by them (him). Graders are, after all, only human.. and even computerized grading was/will be programmed by humans and is not perfect.

d23 - welcome. If you're having filename problems, just rename the file to "1948" or something similar, and make sure it's a supported format. Alternately, you can host the file somewhere else, and use the [ I m g] [ / I m g ] tags to insert pictures, which I find to be the most convenient way.

i think the file has to be under 90kb if I am not mistaken. do you have like a photobucket account? then you can just bring it over here from there. If not you will have to resize your photo until it gets under that limit.

hello D23,

How can you be so sure that yours is NOT a fake?I am not saying it is, and would need better pix to determine.
But trust me.... I can nearly write a (small, tiny ) book about fake Can dollars..

Thank you for the welcome hhbkiddo, first let me say that before I joined this forum I have read many posts and all of yours regarding fake Canadian dollars and I believe from what I have learned from that information "that you certainly could and probably should write a tiny book" The big advantage I have is that I have the coin in hand (as opposed to a picture) the luster is 99.9%, this coin has natural toning as shown, I have compared it to a 1948 dollar at a coin shop and it is the same, I have looked at samples at a site forgerynetwork for comparision and also looked at pictures of certified 1948 dollars. To my knowledge I believe that fake coins do not have almost full luster and are not naturally toned. I look forward to your tiny book lol

wow... I have never seen a 48 toned like this...super coin..
NOW,as a surprise to you...
I personally know of at least 2 cases of certified Canadian dollars... and both are fakes!
I also know of a few fake 48s that were sold in Auctions...
and I bet you that I can show a fake to a dealer and he would NOT recognize it as such.
When I pointed out to a dealer that a certain coin is a fake he said: all I care about it is that the coin is certified!!
And Luster.... todays technologies will make it look any way you want it.
am curious on your coin.. what happened to the indians feather? maybe just the picture?
what grade do you think is yours?

Thanks for your comment on the toning, I also think its great.
Unforunately you are so right when it comes to fakes, right now on ebay item# 270426306323 is a certified coin MS62 that to me is suspect as a fake as the image of the king looks wrong (this item ends in 22 hours) one could check the completed section after it closes. Also I have seen 2 others that I belive are fakes sold on ebay in the last 2 months. The sleepy eyed surprised look on the kings face is a giveaway to me and the mouth is wrong also.
In answer to your last question my opinion is at least a MS60 or better, 2 weeks ago I sent the coin to PCGS for grading and should get it back in about 2-3 weeks.
