my dad was thinking about purchasing one from the mint at the price of $1,330. Good investment? any ideas or comments are appreciated.

Kid ... with the numbers put out on the series it will probably just keep up with the bullion bubble. There is a "collector appeal" with the series that gives it a slight premium over AGE's (kind of like the buffaloes). Unfortunately, the big winner on this series and all new series is the U.S. Mint. They are making $330 on each sale.

Now that I've done my "Mint vent". It's an absolutely gorgeous piece of gold. I would not buy for the potential investment return, I'd buy it for eye candy.

I'd agree with Seated Nut. Unless you can get one and have it certified as a 70 and re-sell it for a profit, it's basically just a piece of gold that is going to go up and down in price with the price of gold. I would also agree with Seated Nut's assertion that it is a very nice looking piece of gold!

I would suggest dad wait awhile. He may be able to buy a PR-69 cheaper on ebay than the mint price, or better yet a PR-70 without too much of a premium. If he is going to do this he may start looking now for the mint box and papers that go with it. They are offered on ebay separately, If I were he, I would want those to go with it. Another suggestion, go with PCGS.
