I wonder how many of these we will actually see in circulation.
Still have not seen either the 2009 Kew Gardens or Royal Shield 50 pence in circulation yet.

Well, they said that this particular one is to be produced in millions, so maybe 2 million. 2009 commemorative coins don't normally get seen until november time, but I have not found 2008 coins, being abroad for half the year did not help.
But with 29 different coins that are going to come out, most of which have not been finalised yet, I think it is a case of buying the sets because they could be quite rare. Though it is possible that 28 coins gte released over the space of 3 years, so 9 a year is still going to be majorly frustrating.

I have only found 1 Royal Shield 50p 2008 in circulation at sharp AU grade back in January 2009, at M&S store next t the Euston Tube station.. haven't seen one more yet and I travel to the Uk frequently.

50p's are always slower than other coins in coming out. The commemoratives are really slow, I found a few 50p's from the new normal coins, but yeah, not many!

I still really dislike the 2012 logo.

It is odd looking. Can't figure out what they are trying to represent with it.

Yeah, I guess it is one of the problems of trying to hip and grovy for the olympics. But then with those 3 £5 coins, plus the 28 further 50p's to come (sometime when the mint get round to actually choose which designs have won) and then the olympics themselves, you'll get so fed up with it it won't be true.
Bring on 2013!

Awful looking coin. Our coinage just keeps on getting worse...

At least you guys get regular currency to go along with it. All of our currency here has practically turned into State Quarters. Totally lame.

Some of the UK 2008 issues and most of the 2009 issues I have not seen in circulation. So I doubt I will see this 50 pence anytime soon.
I think you have it better in the US, since you do have a chance of finding older coins in circulation (over here 1971 for 1 pence/2 pence and the rest are somewhere in the 1980's or 1990's).

I didn't want to be rude and thats why I didn't comment before but in my opinion this design of coin is awful.

It's a good drawing for a 9 year old! Come on, I may even purchase one!
BTW, a Blue Peter Competition doesn't translate well into American slang...just saying...

I got the 1 Guilder or whatever they were called in holland that was designed fro the going out of this currency and designed by a school pupil, I thought it was okay, we weon't be seeing this coin much, if at all in our pockets, so it doesn't matter that much. I think it will look quite nice along with the other designs though, a little different, less serious than I think the other designs will be. There is one high school design, which I guess will be next off the production line, then the adult ones will more than likely be drawings of the thing they actually look like!
