Not the first time I'm hearing this, but never really knew what it was accept for being a coy of coarse.

I think it's when a copy from a mold of each side of a coin is made...and the two halves are joined together often revealing an edge seam.

edit >>> A quick and somewhat simplified(but accurate enough... I 'spose) definition from google...
