.....I've probably got that many coins and postcards combined.....but I'll never catch up on notes.

Dave, do you know why these were printed in so many different colors?

Has anyone tried to get creases out of polymer notes - and how?

Very nice design.

Romania 10 Lei 2005

Obverse: Portrait of Nicolae Grigorescu (1838 - 1907), Romanian painter; Marsh Mallow Hollyhock flower
(Althaea officinalis) and artist's palette and paintbrush; Romanian Coat of Arms. Reverse: House from Oltenia
region; Nicolae Grigorescu's painting "Rodica", representing a country girl. Watermark: George Enescu; BNR
logo. Signatures: Mugur Constantin Isarescu (Governor); Ionel Nitu (Cashier).

If anyone is interested in the Security features:

Transparent window: Painter's palette with paintbrushes and embossed denomination value.

Shadow image ("watermark"): portrait and NBR logo, next to the transparent window. The shadow image
is visible only when the banknote is held up to the light.

Security thread: Hold the banknote against the light and the thread will appear as a dark narrow stripe in the
middle area.

Perfect register: Palette, visible when the banknote is held up to the light. Parts of the palette printed on the
obverse beneath the name of the central bank match perfectly with the parts printed on the reverse and build
a complete image.

Iridescent stripe on the reverse side: All Romanian notes in circulation have on the right of the reverse side
a vertical translucent iridescent stripe which has the nominal value printed seven times.

Microtext: All Romanian notes in circulation have, on the obverse and reverse, printed areas which contain tiny
writing. This can be seen using a magnifying glass.

UV print: On the reverse, green tetragon in UV light which holds the nominal value: "10". The black vertical serial
number shines green, the red horizontal increasing characters serial number shines orange in UV light.

Golden overprinted patch: on the right side on the obverse having the shape of a palette.

Raised print: Special printing technique makes the ink feel raised on both sides on the main design elements
of the 10 Lei issued in 2005 only.

Latent image: When the note is tilted, the letters "BNR" can be seen on the left shoulder of Nicolae Grigorescu.

Hm, I'd not mess with trying to get any wrinkles out. With Polymer, I think that would be impossible. Nice looking note, even with the wrinkles.

@ Dave M - This series drew it's inspiration from an earlier release, but the design was changed noticeably when compared side by side. The Paper thinness and the color change reasons, I can only speculate on, but as they are listed as being 'emergency issues' and during WWII, I at first though that the colors could be due to the possibility that the Germans may invade, and the declaration that the colors would be devalued, such as the yellow seals on the USA Hawaii notes at the time. The thinness of the paper I thought was due to the economic need and availability of paper.

However, I found out an interesting production of these at the time these were printed: in 1929 the Landsbanki Islands Bank started issuing denominations of 5 Kronur and higher, but the the previous issuer, the Ríkissjóður Íslands Bank, continued issuing 1 Krona notes up through 1947. These emergency notes were only during WWII, and the thin notes are supposedly only on these 1 Krona notes. So it could have just been a financial decision made by the Ríkissjóður Íslands bank.

Got this 10 pound note in yesterday. Was a little worried as the envelope was wrapped in plastic with a note stating that another persons package had leaked on it, and they determined it was non-toxic. It was a type of oil that had soaked into the manila envelope. Luckily the envelope was a bubble wrap padded one and the plastic was a great barrier to the oil. Plus the note was in a plastic holder and wrapped in the invoice.

As it happens I just recently watched the biographical film "Frida" (2002) featuring the tempestuous relationship between the two artists, Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. Highly enjoyable and highly recommended.

A case of "seen the film bought the banknote".

These aren't all new acquisitions, but they are my favourites since I have been to all of these countries, aside from Scotland in the UK, and brought back the notes personally.

Well, here's a couple of notes that had a small adventure on their way to me. Then back to the seller, then back to me again. Santa always gets around I guess. I've wanted this note for years, but just recently saw it for sale.
