The need for them to return in 1999 was a direct result of vending machines, not because folks wanted to carry a ballast load.
Actually it was more a demand from cities with mass transit rail systems which at the time were typically $1 or $2 per trip. It was easier to have machines that accepted or distributed dollar coins than dollar notes.

try carrying 1000 new gold dollars or simply 10 100 bills....what will you have in your pockets?
Not a great argument. By the same logic. . .
try carrying 4000 quarters or simply 10 100 bills....what will you have in your pockets?
try carrying 100000 cents or simply 10 100 bills....what will you have in your pockets?
try carrying 20000 nickels or simply 10 100 bills....what will you have in your pockets?
I guess we should eliminate all coins and only have $100 bills to carry around.
Really there is NO REASON to ever carry more than a few coins of ANY denomination in your pocket. Even with out dollar notes the MAXIMUM number of coins you should ever receive in change is 10. And that would be if you paid for a $1.01 purchase with a note of $5 or greater. (dollar coin, three quarters, two dimes and four cents.) If you do have dollar notes then the maximum is nine coins. (With a weight savings of 7 grams, 8 less grams of coin plus 1 more gram of paper.)

I will still bring you a Pepsi, but I will make it a Pepsi Throwback with real sugar in it.
If you bring me a Pepsi PLEASE make it a Throwback! (Mountain Dew Throwback would be even better. Even BETTER would be a Mexican Coke. Now available at Sam's Club, YES!)

......Dr. Pepper Baby !
Excellent product! Did you know there is still one bottler that makes Dr Pepper with real sugar instead of corn syrup?

Dr pepper 'is' a Coke product, is it not?
No, actually it isn't. In some areas the local Coca Cola bottling plant is licensed to bottle and distribute it, in some areas Pepsi is the distributor. Dr Pepper is a partnership of Dr Pepper/7UP and Snapple (The Dr Pepper/Snapple group) and is a subsidiary of Cadbury Schweppes of England. Coke's "Dr Pepper" imitator is Mr Pibb. Pepsi as far as I know has no similar beverage and just licenses Dr Pepper.
