Jim,
I agree with you. I hope that somehow we can pull out of this impending economic collapse. But just in case, I stack silver, copper and lead. The silver and copper to trade with. The lead to protect my silver, copper and - the new currency - seeds.

Let's see captainkurt. The cent rolls sold for $86. He had to pay a listing fee, a final value fee, a paypal fee and a shipping fee. After all that he might have made a few dollars over his $50 face. Still far less that the 2+cents per coin coopper value, but a profit is a profit.

I guesstimate he made about $17 in profit from the $86 sale. He didn't get rich, but there's no such thing as a bad profit!

To be accurate the first listing added the $12+ shipping on top of the sale price numismo but I'm not advising on whether to buy, sell, or hold on copper. My point is they are selling for more than face right now and even with margin to spare. I would bet the government is sorting copper out of circulation or has machines in the works to do so. I'm a small business owner and if I could get a 30% profit on my investment as BadThad is estimating...well, I know where I stand on the buy, sell, and Hold options.

I have about $70.oo worth after about 2 years of saving them. Figure it is only a matter of time till they are kicked out of circulation. That's when you may regret not keeping them. Seeking: More copper cent Rainman

Quote: I would bet the government is sorting copper out of circulation or has machines in the works to do so. That would not surprise me at all. They did it back in 1967 - 72 with silver while the melting of silver coins was illegal. The law simply was to keep the coins in circulation until the governemtn could withdraw them for themselves. As soon and the amount of silver in circulation dropped too low for even their big machines to make the removal practical, the melting ban was dropped.

congrats Greg. When I get to $25, I'll probably sell on ebay. I'm a little over 1/2 way there, and have a box to go through today.

I just checked ebay. There are quite a few listings for bulk copper cents, some with bids, some without. Someone is buying these things, even with high shipping charges.

Crazy, huh? It would be interesting to see if any are being shipped out of the country to smelters.
